Attendance Policy

  • A student who participates in a co-curricular activity must be in school for more than half a normal day of the contest/performance to be eligible for participation in games or practices. A student will be excused only for school-related functions, family, religious observances, and doctor appointments (a doctor’s note is needed to qualify as an excuse). No other excuses will be accepted.
  • Any UNEXCUSED class absence during the day means you cannot practice or play in games or activities that day.

MSHSL Rules on Non-School Competition

  • Athletes on B squad, JV, or Varsity level teams are restricted to competing only for the school team during the season in that particular sport
  • This restriction includes NOT being able to tryout for or practice with a non-school team
  • Examples: AAU, ODP, Junior Olympic programs
  • When in doubt, check with your AD.

  • In training room after school for 2 hours per day
    • We are discouraging drop in times after school
    • Be proactive and save time for you and our staff

You are pledging to be chemically free!

  • MSHSL Bylaws 205: A student shall not at any time, regardless of the quantity:
    • Use or consume, have in possession a beverage containing alcohol;
    • Use or consume, have in possession tobacco; or,
    • Use or consume, have in possession, buy, sell or give away any other controlled substance or drug paraphernalia
    • Use or consume, have in possession, buy, sell or give away products containing or products used to deliver nicotine, tobacco products, and other chemicals

Chemical Eligibility Consequences

  • 2 weeks/2 contests – whichever is greater
  • 3 weeks/6 contests – whichever is greater
  • 4 weeks/12 contests – whichever is greater
  • A student-athlete cannot be a captain nor can he/she be named to an all-conference team if he/she misses any part of the season due to a penalty for violation of MSHSL/District 256 chemical and/or hazing, racial/religious/sexual harassment rules and/or student code of conduct rule
  • This also applies to varsity letters and post-season honors

Violations

  • Bylaw 206 – Student Code of Responsibilities
    • “I will respect and obey the rules of my school, and the laws of my community, state, and country.”
    • Covers behavior both in and out of school
  • Denial Disqualification - MSHSL
    • During an investigation, work with us and be truthful
    • A student shall be disqualified for an additional 9 weeks beyond the student’s original period of ineligibility when the student denies violation of the rule, is allowed to participate, and is subsequently found guilty of the violation.
