Overall progress

In a year of hybrid and remote learning, we made progress in Academic Achievement. The academic team redesigned the high school curriculum, designed student learning experiences for social impact, and increased the number of science and art teachers. This summer, we will review MAP and PSSA data for student achievement and growth.

  • Added three new faculty in science and the arts
  • Completed planning for social impact pathway via accreditation process
  • Completed high school redesign
  • Completed 11th-12th college and career planning

Financial Vitality

Overall progress

Girard College increased revenue streams and decreased the reliance on the endowment this year, while also growing the endowment overall. We experienced a strong fundraising year and put the foundations in place for a successful capital campaign.

  • Increased rental program through partnerships with HBO and Netflix

Overall progress

Girard College continues to grow its presence within the city of Philadelphia. This year, we were able to both enhance and add high-quality partnerships that will help broaden student access to the arts and sciences. We also set up a group of Philadelphia leaders who will lead the Fund for Girard College.

Wins

  • Increased number of partnerships, added three this year, and expanded two
    • Global Citizenship, Curtis Institute of Music, Be Holding, Black Doctors COVID-19 consortium & PHA, CHOP & Independence Blue Cross
  • Completed initial conversations with Hershey about pre-K programming 
  • Early progress on Fund for Girard College

Opportunities

  • Continue to explore funding opportunities for refurbishing the organ and turning Chapel into performing arts center

Overall progress

Residential life at Girard College continues to improve. This year we mad major renovations to our residential buildings. We added important counseling resources to our support staff, and we did the foundational work to implement student programming in year 3 of the strategic plan.

  • Implemented trauma-informed counseling to support student mental health with CHOP

Opportunities

  • Continue to fortify athletic program
  • Continue to add programming to residential program

  • Move student center planning to 2023-24
