WALT: Group basic 2D shapes based on their properties
Simple Shapes
Today we are starting to learn how to group shapes by their properties. Remember, some common properties are:
A square has four sides of equal length.
A square has four vertices
The interior angles of a square are 90 degrees.
A square has four lines of symmetry.
Odd one out!
To start let’s try to work out which shape is the odd one out. Look at the properties of these shapes, which one is different?
A
D
B
C
Which shape is the odd one out and why?

Group the shape
Organise the shapes on this page into categories. Under each explain why.
I grouped these three shapes because they are all curved.
Pick your own shape to describe!
How many sides? Are they the same length?
How many vertices?
Are the sides curved or straight?
A triangle has three sides.
The sides are straight lines.
It has three vertices.
There are different types of triangles, the sides can all be the same length, two the same or all different.
