Week of August 16th, 2023

First Grade News

Reading: During the first three days we will use fun read alouds to help teach routines and expectations in the classroom. Students will learn about feelings, how to be a good friend, recess rules, making good choices, and how to use classroom tools.

Listening and Learning:This domain will introduce students to fables and stories that have delighted generations of people. By listening to these classics, students will increase their vocabulary and reading comprehension skills, learn valuable lessons about ethics and behavior, become familiar with the key elements and parts of a story, and acquire cultural literary.

Letterland:The first three days of school will consist of reviewing letterland characters that will be needed in the weeks to come.

Math: This week in math students will learn how to use best practices during a Ready mathematics lesson. Students will know how to identify and explain models or strategies used to solve problems.

Afternoon Dismissal

Car riders will be dismissed from the classroom starting at 2:45pm. Please be patient with us and your child as we teach then this new routine. We promise to do our best to minimize any inconvenience! Please make sure that your child’s car tag is visible.

**If you need to buckle your child or strap them into a car seat, please pull to the grass to complete. Thank you!

It is important to send a written not and/or call the school office before 11:45am if there is a change in the way that your child will be going home. We want to be sure that we send them safely to the correct place.

Important Information

MORNING SNACK: In order to help students avoid confusing lunch and snack items, please place a morning snack in the small front zipper pocket of your child's backpack (instead of in his/her lunchbox with lunch items). Please show your child where to find his/her morning snack.

Please NO liquid in water bottles other than water! Any dye colored liquid will stain the floor and carpet.

  • Hoodies and hooded jackets are not allowed to be worn in the building.
  • Jackets need to be Solid black or red
  • NO boots
  • Car tags should be visible in the car rider line

Please send water only for snack in a spill-proof bottle.

Writing: This week in Writing we will begin our “Secret Student of the Day” writing. Each day we will write about a different “secret” student.
