Disaggregated Data Highlights

  • Achievement = how students do at that particular time of assessment. This is more of a snapshot of how a student is doing.
  • Academic growth = compares specifically how a student does over a period of time. This is often a greater picture of how a student is doing versus achievement only.
  • CMAS at BES: 3rd and 4th grade students. So the growth data is only for one cohort of students. Ex: the growth data we have from 2023 CMAS is for our current group of 4th grade students only. Many other schools in the district go K-5 so they have two years of growth data to use for this calculation.
  • Many of our students at BES take CSLA - which is the Spanish Language Arts assessment as well as CMAS Math in Spanish.
  • ACCESS: students who are identified as "emerging bilinguals" when they start with us at BES. 55% of our student population took this assessment this year.

Disaggregated Data Q&A

  • Academic achievement in Math:
    • How long will it take to have enough meaningful data to determine the impact of the new math curriculum?
    • Why is growth data unavailable for 2022?
  • Academic achievement in ELA & SLA:
    • For both CMAS and ACCESS, there was an increase in growth between 2019–2023, but a decrease in growth between 2022-2023. What were the contributing factors?
    • Are we seeing similar trends in DIBELS and IDEL data when compared to CMAS and ACCESS?
  • Looking at the root causes identified in the Action and Progress Monitoring Plan, how can SAC/DAC support BES's existing efforts to remove these barriers:
    • Instruction: Lack of impactful instruction in English for ELL students (are there more specifics here?)
    • Behavior Systems: SEL Challenges
    • Lack of student ownership of learning

Disaggregated Data Q&A

  • What other patterns does the data reveal about students' needs?
  • What additional supports and interventions are currently in place for the following sub-groups? Are there any adaptations needed to make intervention more effective?
    • ELL
    • FRL
    • Minority Students
    • Students with IEPs
  • How transportation challenges and bus schedules adversely impact students.
    • Missing instructional time/breakfast? Are they arriving at school dysregulated due to behaviors/situations on the bus?
  • Are there any factors that prevent students from receiving enough intervention (budget, absences, behavior issues, group size, staff training, etc)?
  • Is performance data analyzed by the teacher/classroom? What supports are in place for the teacher if a teacher's students consistently underperform?
  • Please define “Multilingual learners” and “Non-Multilingual learners”
  • Is it possible to obtain comparison of assessment results of English-only class compared to Dual language class?

  • Are dollars allocated appropriately for student count?
  • Are dollars from the district for SPED and GT spent on these items?
  • Does the general budget support the goals of the school?
  • How are PTO/PTA dollars being appropriated?
  • What concerns, if any, does the SAC see with the current budget?
  • What recommendations does the SAC have for budget items? (document in minutes)
