AARP is going to create a center in Boston that will host quarterly entrepreneurship practicums. It will connect 50+ entrepreneurs with interns, recent graduates, and mentors. This program will be for AARP members only and will give members access to resources and provide direction needed to start and manage their own business.

Jordan: a way AARP can corner the 50+ entrepreneurship market

Our plan is to utilize the reach and scope of AARP’s brand to promote entrepreneurial activity (in Boston) through creation of an entrepreneurial community. To do so, we will use AARP’s already existing innovation infrastructure (LivePitch, Pulse@ MassChallenge, EncoreEntrepreneurs, etc) and supplement it with access to small businesses to further support all 50+ entrepreneurs.

Our goal is to have AARP work with 50+ entrepreneurs and local University, students, and recent graduates looking to create products and services for the 50-65 y/o market.

AARP can tap into one of the most innovative locations in the country (Boston) and tap into a labor market in an attempt to rebrand itself as an innovator of real possibilities through support in funding, guidance, mentorship and access to resources.

The 50+ entrepreneurs are growing in number and do not want to simply retire. More and more are willing to start a second career where they can be the boss and control their health, wealth, and self. By supporting the 50+ entrepreneurs, AARP opens up an avenue to entice participation with one of their main targets, 50-65 y/o

By supporting both ends of the spectrum, you can now provide a collaborative environment that mixes both the young and the old looking to make a difference.

This can be used as the model for AARP to go into a market to test whether or not a community has the strength and need to support a local Hatchery.
