Concept

  • A webapp game with a research objective.
    • Data gathering combined with entertainment and engagement.�

  • Memoria is designed to test a variety of players on their short term and visual working memory.�

  • Ideally, we want researchers to be able to come to conclusions or insights based on the responses and data.

Game Flow and Elements

  • All challenges / questions are tied together by a single narrative.

  • Completion of the game (full data set) is encouraged, so players proceed even if they answer incorrectly.

  • Players who complete challenges successfully will receive a time bonus that positively impacts the plot (not yet implemented).

Art Assets and Design

  • Characters drawn in Adobe Photoshop CS6
    • All original assets were done during the hackathon

  • Backgrounds edited from other sources
    • Forest background by waqasmalik
    • Mountain background by hongqizhang
    • Desert background by Magdalena Płoszkiewicz

Implementation

  • Webapp built in javascript and php over the course of ~24 hours
    • All visuals powered by the P5.js library

  • SQL database stores player’s choices and information if player voluntarily submits it

What We Want to Add

  • More structured and research driven questions / scenarios
    • Hypothesis testing: Chunking vs No chunking

  • “Ranking” algorithm that will apply a metric on players
    • Weighted to reflect more difficult problems

  • More engagement and immersion with the art style and visuals
    • Allow for interactions within the visual canvas
    • Spend time creating animation frames�
