Each student will be issued a course notebook. Replacements are available for an additional fee. This learning strategy is called “Interactive Notebooks”. Proper management of your notebook is essential for your success. Keeping an accurate Table to Contents, adding inserts, use of colors, highlighters, and annotating is helpful. A “perk” for having good notes and proper organization allows for easy use during allotted time on assessments.

OPTION 1: Today’s class can go several ways. Our sub today, Mrs. Blazek owns and operates a dairy farm with her family, and I am willing to let her share their story about the farm. You have a chance to ask questions about there operation and philosophies about the farm.
OPTION 2: You can begin learning about the plant materials that we feed animals. This is called agronomy. Growing and harvesting crops to feed animals is a necessary component of raising production animals. While some feeds may be purchased or prepared for at feed mills, others can be grown in the field, harvested, and stored at the farm. Begin with these crops; reading and answering questions about the plant crop. Also, write down how many square feet are in one acre of land.

Based on the breeds of animals you selected, please create new slide in your MyFarmette Project to create a species information guide. What is the background history of this breed(s)? What does it look like? How long does this breed take to get to reproductive age or market size, or to the age where is produces milk or eggs? If a meat animal, are there desirable carcass characteristics? Can you find any specific management techniques for this animal? Ie: animal temperament, safety issues, meat quality factors, good mothering abilities, etc. Where could you buy breeding stock of this animal if you needed to do that? Look at yesterday’s slide if you need to see the breeds again.
