Context

Tool for closing

the cycle and transferring

1.

Goal: Create a process that dries bee pollen for preservation.

The clients that keep bees are looking for a device that facilitates a process to dry and preserve pollen collected  from the hive.  this process should be easily integrable to the apiary's current layout and use a minimum amount of energy.  The startup cost should be low, as well as maintenance costs.

The Solution / Deliverable

2.

A Modified Solar Dehydrator

  • The solution is a modified solar dehydrator featuring an optimized geometry for heat retention, arduino temperature and humidity monitoring, and interior condition controls. This allows for the pollen to dry at a reasonable rate, while conserving energy usage. The process provides quality results with indoor and outdoor usage, regardless of energy usage.

Here are the team's suggestions for future users : Would you change anything about the design? Would you improve something? Suggestions for application in other contexts? (Example: Materials, Dimensions, Parts, Mechanism / Functioning, omit or add a system)

Added water and weather proofing for the electronic set up

Make process available for more pollen

Make modular device

Test with real pollen

Most hit devices doesn’t hit to 45 celsius, a radiator or an oven hitter might work.
