PE credits earned

cannot be mixed

with PE Waivers

EVERY PE class is .25 credit/semester

so at MHS students must complete

2 PE classes that earn credit

OR

2 PE Waivers

The State of Ohio Physical Education Requirement = .50 credit

11 of 22

11

PE Waivers

If a student participates in 2 full seasons

of a MHS sanctioned school sport/activity, they will be issued a

PE Waiver.

Waivers do not issue credits or a grade; but it lets the state know this requirement has been met.

*Sports played at MMS do not count as a MHS PE Waiver

*They don’t have to be the same sport/activity & does not have to be in the same year

*Participation must be for the entire season

PE Waivers are automatically added to the transcript

after the season has ended – NO paperwork needed.

Another way to earn grades & credit for PE is…

By creating what is called a Credit Flex Application

Requirements:

  • Log 60 hours of an activity (ex: club sports, dance, gymnastics…)
  • Have a coach/mentor or trainer who can sign off (verifying your 60 hours)
    • Write a paragraph for each of the state standards about

how it relates to the activity you did.

* Each Credit Flex application completed issues .25 credits & a grade.,

(if you can get 120 hours in a semester, you ARE permitted to request .50 credit)

Credit Flex Application Deadlines are: Aug. 1, Dec. 1, May 1

Student Driven Learning Opportunities

If your student wants to squeeze-in or take as many higher level classes as possible, or if there are classes that Mason does not offer (but that a local university allows high school students to take)

then maybe they want to start exploring options with:

Credit Flex a flexible way to earn credit for coursework (Individual Plan, Online, or Mastery Assess)

Most successful Credit Flex attempts: PE or Arts (as explained back with PE, Health or Financial Lit online…

(NOTE: A Credit Flex Application MUST BE APPROVED prior to doing it)

Credit Flex Application Deadlines are: Aug. 1, Dec. 1, May 1

College Credit Plus (CCP) an opportunity to take classes from a college/university, thus earning credits & grades from that institution AND that are added to your high school transcript.

Research CCP coursework offered at each college you are considering because they may have

different info/due dates/admission criteria…
