Will my child be permitted to carry a bookbag/string bag/rolling bag?

No, students are not permitted to carry large bags, as these present different safety risks. Your child will be assigned a locker and will be able to access their locker at designated times and at other times with a pass/permission.

Frequently Asked Questions

12 of 17

Can my child have their cell phone?

Students do not need their cell phones for class use; they will be assigned a Chromebook that is utilized for classroom technology. The new county policy stipulates that cell phones for Middle School must be deactivated and in their locker. Bottom line: cell phones should NOT be out during instructional time- not even for texts from home :) If you need to get in touch with your child, you can always call the school.

What do I do when my child is absent?

You may email or bring in notes for excused absences. Your child may also bring those notes to their homeroom teacher. If you worry that it may not make it to the main office please send them directly to nicole.szewczyk@hcps.org

Will my child be required to have a PE uniform?

Yes. Students are required to change for PE- though not on the first few days of class. PE teachers will review all expectations and practice these with students. Each student is assigned a PE locker. Encourage them to lock up their personal belongings!

Will my child interact with High School students?

We maintain a separation between middle and high school students as much as possible. The middle school operates on its own schedule and is primarily housed on the 2nd floor.
