Go to My.bvsd.org

Select Google Classroom

Click the ‘+’ in the upper right hand corner and select ‘Create Class’

  1. Class Name should have: Teacher last name, period or grade level, and content area.

EX:

Smith, 4th Grade

Jones, Period 6, Geometry

(Filling out the rest of this is optional.)

Then select ‘Create.’

Enrolling students in class- send code to students via parent contact

As soon as a course is created, an enroll code is created.

Make it big by clicking this square.

Or enroll students by email/ invite in People Tab

Click here to add emails of teachers or students to invite them to join class.

Classwork Menu-

Create button:

Assignment- a typical assignment including daily work, group work, projects, labs, etc.

Quiz Assignment- will auto create a Google Form for teacher to create a quiz/ exit ticket with the option for Google to auto-grade.

Question- quick poll or check for understanding

Material- resources like websites, articles, instructions, etc.

Reuse post- copy a post to other sections

Topic- to organize units or types of assignments

Adding Resources-

When adding resources choose Students can view file if students are only looking at the file not interacting with it.

Choose Make a Copy and Google will make a copy for each student, stick their name on it, and put the copy in their Google Drive.

Don’t use Students can edit file because it only takes one kid to delete the file and it’s gone!

Teachers can share assignments with All students, groups of students, or single students.

A great way to differentiate.

Grade Category:

You can create categories by standard or by assignment type as you would in IC.

These grades DO NOT auto post in IC but they can be helpful in workflow.

Points:

Change the points total or go with Ungraded for Pass/Fail.

Due Date:

Set a day and time for assignments to be due.

These will auto post to student and teacher google calendars.

Topic:

As assignments are created, you can and should add the assignment to a topic.

Create a new topic here or file into existing topic.

Rubric:

Create a rubric- see next slide

Reuse already created rubric but only one created in Google Classroom.

Import from sheets- CANNOT import from any other rubric source.

Rubric will auto-attach to assignment

Pretty easy to use. Just fill in the fields and add as many criterion as you would like.

Assignment Created-

Student assignment status shows once assignment has been posted.

Assignment Dropbox-

This is now a drop box for student assignments.

Each assignment is clickable for grading.

Assignments are auto filed in Google Drive for easy search.

Feedback-

The return button allows the teacher to privately comment on student work, assign a grade, and return to student.

Annoying Settings to change

Three steps to turn off email notifications:

  1. Home screen: click on settings (top right)

2. Scroll to General

3. Click Classwork on the stream and Select Hide Notifications. (you’re welcome)
