97.5 of the world’s water is salinated. Of the 2.5% that’s fresh, over 99% is trapped in glaciers and snowfields. It total only .025% of the water on the globe is actually drinkable by humans and animals.

Imagine a gallon jug filled with water with three ice cubes next to it. All of the water in the jug is salt water. The ice cubes are the only fresh water, and humans can only drink the drops that are melting off of each.

The distance to the nearest solar system is 4.25 light-years

Heath and Starr, 2022

How far away is the nearest star from us? Well, imagine shrinking the solar system down to the size of a quarter. You leave quarter at the goalpost of a soccer field and walk toward the goalpost at the other end of the field. When you reach it, drop another quarter to represent the solar system of the nearest neighbor, Proxima Centauri. Everything between the quarters is just cold, dark space.

“Sunny Days Ahead” script

Keza: Dad, I think we should plan an outdoor lunch for our neighbours to say thank you for their help with the farm!

Dad: That’s a wonderful idea, Keza. We should plan it on a day that will be sunny.

Keza: How do we do that? By looking at the sky?

Dad: Well, it can sometimes be hard to tell by simply looking at the sky! Did you know that we can use the maths we’ve learned?

Keza: How?!

Dad: It is Friday now. Let’s look at the weather from earlier this week and count how many days it rained.

Keza: Hmm… Out of the 4 days from Monday to Thursday, it rained on 3 of them.

Dad: That’s right. So what was the percentage of rainy days last week if it rained 3 out of 4 days: 30% or 75%?

Narrator: What do you think?

Hummingbirds weigh about 3 grams and consume between 3 and 7 calories a day, making their metabolisms nearly 50 times faster than humans

Heath and Starr, 2022

A hummingbird’s metabolism is so fast that, if it were the size of an average adult human male, it would need to consume slightly more than a Coke every waking minute – 67 cokes an hour, for 16 hours a day
