Process of This Activity

  • Using the Fraction Learning Progression document and their standards document, in small groups participants analyzed the standards that addressed fractions at their grade level.
  • They then created a poster that indicated what their grade level does within this progression.
  • These small groups then shared and discussed the posters with the whole group.

Summary

  • The learning progression document is lengthy. But, it really does provide some insights into what these standards mean and how they "roll out" across the grade levels. It also provides information relating to common struggles and misconceptions students might have with fractions.
  • The process of digger deeper into this fraction progression and discussing it in a group was valuable and gave us a better "big picture" vision.
