Program Overview and Objectives

  • Our Post 9/11 world…
  • TSA established a name-based Security Threat Assessment (STA) and a fingerprint-based Criminal History Records Check (CHRC) procedure

  • Every pilot operating in and out of the MD-3 airports must complete additional security screening

  • Basically, every pilot operating inside the FRZ is “known” to not be a security threat

The Vetting Process in Five Simple Steps

  1. Complete the SFRA Special Awareness Training
  2. Fill out a TSA 418 Form, more on this later
  3. Submit your documents
    1. TSA 418
    2. SFRA Training Certificate
    3. FAA Airman Certificate
    4. FAA Medical
    5. Government ID (NOTE: Addresses must match on all documents)
  4. Complete a video interview with airport personnel
  5. Get Fingerprinted

Common Issues

  • Procrastinating
  • Incomplete Documentation
    • Please fill out documents and submit supporting documents in a readable format
  • Mismatched addresses on forms
    • Submit address change confirmations
  • Fingerprinting
    • Best bet: get fingerprinted through NATACs instead of local law enforcement

Filing Procedures

  • Must file over the phone
  • If you fly the same aircraft frequently, your information will be saved
  • You will be asked for your name and PIN
  • File to/from CGS to a gate or another airport in the SFRA/FRZ
  • The crazy part…
