Introduction

In this lesson, you will explore the CTE programs your school district offers and how counselors can help guide you to find the right pathways. With a partner, you will analyze the Orange County Career Pathways website to discover what it has to offer. Next, you will look at the websites of nearby colleges to see what types of programs they provide. Finally, you will analyze the pathways you chose in both high school and college to see which careers might be connected to these pathways. You will then research one of these possible careers.

THINK ABOUT YOUR HIGH SCHOOL’S CTE PROGRAMS

How are CTE classes different from regular classes?

First, CTE is focused on skills, which sets it apart from traditional and university-based education, which is more theory-based.

While CTE does include some theory, it's usually limited to introductory materials.

The bulk of CTE focuses on practice, hands-on experience, and application tests. This emphasis on real-world experience is crucial because CTE careers require workers to have practical experience in their field before starting a career.
