Fast Angles

Which angle do toy cars go fastest?

2 of 8

Purpose

The purpose of this experiment is to determine which angle toy cars(specifically Hot Wheels)go fastest. I am selecting the angles 70, 75, and 80 degree angles.

Hypothesis

The researcher believes if a toy car goes down a 75 degree angle ramp, then the toy car will go the fastest.

Materials

  • A 2 foot board
  • A stopwatch
  • A toy car
  • A protractor

5 of 8

Procedure

  • Put the board on top of an object and lean the other side against a wall.
  • Use the protractor to measure a 70 degree angle.
  • Hold the toy car at the top of the board.
  • Let go of the toy car and start the stopwatch both at the same time.
  • Time how long it takes for the toy car to reach the bottom of the board.
  • Repeat steps 2-5 using 75 and 80 degree angles.

Data

Here was the data collected(may have to zoom in) :

Conclusion

The results concluded that my original hypothesis was rejected. The total time for the steepest angle was the most. While the total for the flattest angle was the least for all 3. So it is concluded that a toy car going down a 70 degree angle will go the fastest.

Real world connection

Knowing which angle makes objects go fastest could help factories make their products, A race track with faster cars, Faster contraptions, and better ramps.
