REQUIREMENTS�Raptor Sign-in and Instant Screening

  • A driver’s license or state ID is required for the first visit.
  • We use the Raptor Visitor Management System.
  • The system completes an instant screening of state and national sex offender databases as well as any custom databases created by Granville Schools.
  • This does not constitute an official background check.

TRUST AND RESPECT�

  • As a volunteer, you serve as a role model for students. How you interact with the students, school personnel, and other volunteers will impact students’ trust, respect, interactions, and behaviors.
  • Our volunteers exercise gracious professionalism by working collaboratively, acting with integrity, and intentionally exhibiting both the school’s mission and the Portrait of a Graduate traits when working with students and staff.

VOLUNTEER EXPECTATIONS�

  • Attend and acknowledge completion of Volunteer Training Program
  • Adhere to all building and district policies and procedures
  • Work under the supervision of school personnel
  • Engage students in successful and meaningful learning experiences
  • Possess a genuine interest in the overall academic and social experience for students

  • Maintain the highest level of confidentiality with all student information
  • Exercise knowledge of all school safety information
  • Seek school and district personnel for direction, guidance, and assistance
  • Collaborate to keep students at the forefront of interactions, engagement, and decision-making
  • Volunteers may only use restrooms designated for adults.

PROFESSIONAL CONDUCT AND COMMUNICATION��

  • Never be alone with a student (with the exception of your child) in a closed room or private setting.
  • Maintain a positive demeanor with students at all times.
  • Keep all student information CONFIDENTIAL, e.g. behavior, demographics, academics, family, discipline, etc.
  • Maintain appropriate physical boundaries with students; never touch students in a way that is aggressive, disciplinary, or sexual in nature.

PROFESSIONAL CONDUCT AND COMMUNICATION

  • Understand that students can attach themselves to adult behaviors; exercise sound judgement at all times.
  • Private communications, e.g. phone calls, text messages, or any social media, should not be used with students.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality concerning student and staff information.
  • Contact school personnel regarding any student concerns.
  • Engage in conversations that demonstrate respect for others, and avoid language that may be perceived as discriminatory, sexist, or offensive.
  • Exercise the Portrait of a Graduate traits and the Granville Schools mission.

STUDENT ABUSE/ CHILD NEGLECT

  • Report all suspected incidents of child abuse and/ or neglect to school personnel immediately.
  • Volunteers poses the right to report directly to Licking County Child Protective Services: 740-670-8888.

DISTRICT POLICIES AND PROCEDURES

  • Complete the following: (1) patriciate in training program; (2) sign the “Volunteer Training Program Acknowledgement Form”; (3) complete a screening using the Raptor VMS in the school office.
  • Sign in and out at the main office. Volunteers must wear a badge/ sticker at all times.
  • Report to the assignment ON TIME as scheduled. If the volunteer cannot make the scheduled day/ time, notify the teacher/ staff member as soon as possible.
  • Work only in your assigned location. Volunteers cannot visit other areas of the building without prior authorization.
  • Any information regarding a student MUST REMAIN CONFIDENTIAL and is not to be shared with anyone.

DISTRICT POLICIES AND PROCEDURES

  • Non-school age children are not permitted to accompany the volunteer.
  • Review and adhere to all building fire, tornado, and safety plans; this includes ALL drills.
  • Discipline and Crisis Intervention is the responsibility of the school personnel. If need arises for involvement, seek staff immediately and follow staff instruction. If a child is injured, notify school personnel immediately and remain with the child until the member of the school staff arrives. DO NOT treat the child yourself; staff is trained to care for students.

DISTRICT POLICIES AND PROCEDURES

  • Respect instructional time. Any questions should be addressed with the teacher/ staff member during non-instructional time.
  • When addressing teachers/staff/students, use the titles Mr., Mrs., or Miss to model respect to the students.
  • Conduct yourself in a positive and professional manner at all times.
  • When using copy machines, allow teachers/staff members to interrupt, if necessary.
  • As a volunteer, you do make a difference! Always remember that students and their welfare always come first!

Granville Schools requires that all volunteers certify that they understand their responsibilities as a volunteer and also understand that their privileges can be revoked by administration due to a violation outlined within the Volunteer Training Program.

IMPORTANT

Volunteers may only begin once they have completed the training program, acknowledgement form, and have been cleared through the Raptor VMS. Please contact the building amin office to verify completion of necessary steps.
