Interactive Student Notebook

Tips & Tricks:

  • Understand WHY you are choosing to use an INB and stay true to that purpose
  • MODEL, MODEL, MODEL exactly what you expect of student notebooks in your own notebook
  • Make copies of your “model notebook” for absent students
  • Attach foldables, folded/stacked paper, or even booklets to maximize space
  • Print on half-sheets of paper or make strips for compatible page sizes
  • Use small post-it’s as tabs/dividers
  • Use large rubber bands or paperclips for bookmarks
  • Develop a system for annotating notes
  • Adopt templates so students can build routines
  • Some people utilize Cornell Notes
  • For incentive or quick assessment, offer brief open-INB quizzes either on content or just INB organization
  • Use Plickers? Have students attach their student card to the inside front/back cover
  • Consider going digital with a DIGITAL interactive Notebook (resource listed)
