SKYSCRAPER RULES

  • Build towers in each of the squares provided sized 1 through 4 tall
  • Each row has skyscrapers of different heights (1 through 4), no duplicate sizes
  • Each column has skyscrapers of different heights (1 through 4), no duplicate sizes
  • The rules on the outside (in grey) tell you how many skyscrapers you can see from that direction
  • Taller skyscrapers block your view of shorter ones

Build fluency in math facts

  1. Each partner group gets a deck of cards with 10 - K removed. A’s are worth 1
  2. Each player gets 7 cards.
  3. Rather than finding pairs, they are looking for the 2 cards they need to make a total of 10
  4. Students take turns until all of the pairs are found

*Have students lay their two cards (or “parts”) they used to find the sum (or “whole”) face up

*Students can use 3 or more cards to find the total, however the deck won’t work out to be used completely if you do this, and you will have leftover cards

Salute Card Game

Build fluency in math facts

A is worth 1, J is worth 11, Q is worth 12 and K is worth 13

Students are placed in groups of 3, with like ability math partners

The dealer (or sum/product finder) gives the other 2 players a card.

Without looking, each player will place the card on their forehead face out.

The sum finder adds the value of the cards together.

Each player tries to determine the value of their card, based on the total and the card they see on the other players forehead.

The player to win the round keeps the cards and players rotate turns so that each student has a turn to be the sum finder.

*For older students, the sum finder can become the product finder as students work with multiplication and division

*For students that are still developing their sense of number remove higher value cards. One group may have all cards A-5 while another could have the other half of the deck (6-K).
