Components of an application

    • The physical application: (Common App, Coalition App/SCOIR or the college’s own application)
    • Student transcript with CHHS Profile
    • Standardized test scores (if applicable)
    • Personal essay
    • Letters of recommendation- 1-2 teachers & school counselor (other- if applicable)
    • Resume (activities list)
    • Supplemental essays (if applicable)
    • Portfolios/auditions/interviews (if applicable)

Senior “to do” List - Early fall

  • Finalize college list

  • Fill out Senior Autobiography packet (was due on 9/12)

  • Meet with counselor to review autobiography and college list

  • Review transcript on portal

  • Finalize standardized testing, if applicable

  • Start a common application account

  • Continue filling out application

  • Write essay and supplemental essays, if applicable

  • Visit campus’ and/or attend rep visits at CHHS (demonstrated interest)

  • Request transcripts and letters of recommendation on Naviance

  • Adhere to deadlines!!! So important!!!!

Dabima VS. Naviance

  • Optional resource to help students stay organized with application requirements - including very easy access to all supplemental essays

  • Has a comprehensive college search capability

  • Provides students w/ “My Chances” based on actual data from college

  • Student can add a team (parents, teachers, etc) to get feedback on essays and resume
  • Required for students requesting transcripts & letters of recommendation

  • Students update all admissions decisions

  • Has a comprehensive college & career search capability

  • Used to schedule all admissions rep visits

  • Used by school counselors & teachers submit all required school documentation to colleges

Naviance College Rep Visits

Students must register 48 hours in advance for any college rep visit!

Importance of rep visits:

  • To learn more about a specific college
  • Great way to show demonstrated interest, especially if student has not been on campus
  • Meet the admissions representative who will be reading your application!

Naviance Dashboards - Transcript & Teacher Letter Requests

  • Individual meetings with all seniors to review college list, review senior autobiography packet and other post secondary plans (from June - end of October).

  • Met with seniors during this past Tiger Tuesday to review process of requesting official transcripts, teacher letters of recommendation, Common App/Naviance matching and the FERPA form.

  • Counselors will be holding application workshops to assist students with their activities list and essays.

  • The Counseling department will be holding a Financial Aid Night for parents on October 29th.

Student & Counselor Responsibilities

Student

  • Request transcripts & letters in Naviance at least 3 weeks prior to application deadlines

  • Pay close attention to & adhere to all college deadlines

  • Submit application to each college

  • Send SAT/ACT scores, if applicable

  • Check email daily

  • Follow all directions communicated by college after submission of application (start portal account, etc.)

Counselor

  • Provide support to student pertaining to all aspects of the application

  • Submit transcripts by each application deadline after requests are made by student through Naviance

  • Submit counselor letter of recommendation by application deadline

  • Submit School Profile

  • Submit mid year grades to colleges

Financial Aid & Scholarship Information

Financial Aid

  • All schools require the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) - opens on 10/1

  • Some private colleges also require the CSS Profile - opens on 10/1

  • Pay very close attention to individual college deadlines pertaining to financial aid

  • Financial Aid Night on Wednesday, October 29th at 6:30 via zoom

Scholarships

  • Check w/ each college about scholarship opportunities, if applicable

  • Use websites, like Fastweb, Going Merry & Scholarships.com

  • Local/regional scholarships - can be found on the Class of 2026 google classroom

  • CHHS Scholarship Program - seniors will learn about this in late winter
