Food

Hi I’m Rina Presley and I am going to tell you about what the Comanches ate. The Comanches ate every part of the animals except the skin, hooves and bones. Corn, squash and beans also known as the three sisters are the Comanches best crops. The Comanches never planted their own crops. The buffalo was a very important food and animal to the Comanches. The Comanches would absolutely not eat fish or fowl unless necessary. Some other food the Comanches eat were elk, grizzly bear, and antelope. Comanches thought it was healthy to drink blood out of dead animals. Let’s hand it over to Ryan with Clothing!

Clothing

Hi, I am Ryan Horlock and I will be talking about clothing. The women wore uneven skirts with loose tops and beads. The men wore breechcloths, leggings, and moccasins in the summer. A lot of the clothing was made out of buffalo. The Comanche used bison hair for dresses. Now I will be telling you about shelter!

Shelter

In the teepees, the entrance was faced away from the wind. Their beds had buffalo covers, and red mats. At the back of every teepee was either a bed or a seat. A regular Comanche teepee was normally thirteen feet high, but the chief's tepee was twenty feet high. Now, let’s hand it over to Peyton, with weapons and tools!

Weapons and Tools

Hi, I’m Peyton Young, and I’m going to tell you about the Comanche weapons and tools. Their bows were made of Osage orange wood, ash, and hickory wood. They were experts with a bow and arrow. To prowe that, most Comanche people could shoot up to twenty arrows per minute! Their arrows were made out of dogwood, but they were tipped with bone, flint, and steel. Their shields were made of thick rawhide and roundly and ovally. All of their shields were made to look like the sun. Now, off to Rina with Customs and Religions!

Customs and Religion

Hey it’s Rina again and I’m going to tell you about Customs and religion this time. The Comanches believed in life after death. Comanches were not afraid of the death. The men’s favorite horse was shot at the grave when he died. Comanches thought the greatest time was spent as a warrior. When a man wanted to marry a woman he would usually give her mom or dad a horse. Now let’s hand it over to Ryan with children!

Children

Hey it’s Ryan again and this time I will be telling you about children of the Comanche. Comanche children learned to ride horses before they could walk. When boys became older they began to form groups and avoided girls. When it was warm, the boys wore breechcloths. Names for pets were given to children until they were formally named. As soon as a baby was born, it was washed and wrapped in skins and put on a cradleboard. Ok, that’s all of clothing, now let’s hand it over to Peyton, who is talking about where the Comanche are today!
