Momentum

  • Momentum is a measurement of mass in motion: how much mass is in how much motion. It is usually་given the symbol p.
  • Defined  by P=mv kgm/s

This simple relationship means that doubling either the mass or velocity of an object will simply double the momentum.

Impulse Changes Momentum

Impulse = change in momentum.

  • Force * time = change in momentum

Solve

  • Mass   100g   = convert it into kg   0.1kg

Final velocity(v)- Initial velocity(u)= 2m/s -2m/s

change in momentum = 0. 1 *(2-2)

                           0

which is wrong( here the importance of vector has to be defined

Solve 2

  • Mass   100g   = convert it into kg   0.1kg

Final velocity(v)- Initial velocity(u)= -2m/s -2m/s

change in momentum = 0.1 *(-2-2)

                                                   Where the impulse is =    0.4 kgm/s

Conservation of momentum

Momentum of an object can change due to impulse, as acceleration can change due to net force.

Only external impulse and force can change the momentum.

collisionsགདོང་ཐུག

  • Momentum is conserved in Collisions.
