SEL & Character

Social-emotional learning

SecondStep A social-emotional learning program that helps students build important life skills such as managing emotions, showing kindness and empathy, solving problems, and making responsible choices. Through engaging lessons and activities, students learn how to be successful friends, classmates, and learners.

Positivity ProjectA character education program that helps students recognize positive character strengths in themselves and others. Through engaging lessons and discussions, students learn about kindness, teamwork, gratitude, perseverance, and other qualities that help build strong relationships and a positive school community.

Zones of RegulationA social-emotional learning approach that helps students identify and understand their feelings and energy levels. Students learn strategies to manage their emotions, make positive choices, and use tools that help them feel ready to learn and interact successfully with others.

Lunch & Snack

Food information

Lunch

10:30 AM -11:00 AM

Any drinks that are not water will need to be disposed of before leaving the cafeteria.

Parents will be allowed to eat lunch with their student(s) and ONE friend.

Students will need to learn their lunch number by the end of the first quarter.

Snack

Our class with have a daily 10 minute snack. Snacks will need to be sent daily by parents. Only WATER to drink; no juice, milk, or soda.

Food Notes

  • Only water is allowed in the classroom.
  • Snacks will need to be cleaned up within a ten minute window. Please send snacks in a container if you would like leftovers sent home.

Arrival & Dismissal

Transportation routines

Morning Arrival

The building opens at 8:45 am for students. Breakfast will be served at this time. The instructional bell rings at 9:15 am. If your child is late, you must check into the front office.

Afternoon Dismissal

All bus riders will need a bus tag. Do not remove these from their bookbag. Please help your student memorize their carpool number.

Changes

Transportation changes will only come from the front office. Please do not send via email or TalkingPoints.

Birthdays & Celebrations

Birthdays

We do acknowledge students birthdays throughout the school year and allow children to share a treat with the class at lunch. NO balloons, party favors, or candles are permitted.

Treats

All treats for the class must be store bought and sealed in the package in which they were purchased.

Invitations

If invitations need to be handed out, please have the students name on the invitation.

Please send a signed note in your students folder when they return. A doctor’s note is preferred.

Kindergarten Teacher

Hi, families! I’m Mrs. Poland, and I’m so excited to be your child’s kindergarten teacher! I earned my Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education from Liberty University and have experience working with children in a variety of educational and youth settings.��I love creating a classroom where every child feels valued, supported, and excited to learn. I look forward to partnering with families and celebrating all of the growth, confidence, curiosity, and wonderful memories our kindergarteners make this year!

Kindergarten Instructional Assistant

Hi, families! This is my 5th year at Richland Creek, and RCES holds a special place in my heart. Two of my boys are proud Richland Creek graduates, and my youngest still attends here.��I love getting to know our kindergarteners, hearing all of their funny and important stories, and learning new things right alongside them. I’m so excited for another year of learning, laughter, and fun!
