Week 3
WALT: use a formula to problem solve
Algebra: Work out the missing number
Work out the correct value of the letter X in these number statements: (The first one has been done for you)
Algebra: Work out the missing number
Work out the correct value of the letter n in these number statements: (The first one has been done for you)
Using a formula:
If a = 4, b = 5, c = 6 and d = 7
Calculate the answers to these: (the first one has been done for you)
Number Sequences:
These sequences are created using a formula including ‘n’ which means any number. For the 1st number n = 1, for the 2nd number n = 2 and so on. For each sequence, work out the 6th, 15th, 21st and 100th number on the sequence.
Formula | First 5 Numbers in the Sequence | 6th | 15th | 21st | 100th |
n + 20 | 21, 22, 23, 24, 25… | | | | |
n - 12 | -11, -10, -9, -8, -7…
2n + 4 | 6, 8, 10, 12, 14… | | | | |
5 + 3n | 8, 11, 14, 17, 20… | | | | |
8n ÷ 2 | 4, 8, 12, 16, 20… | | | | |
7n - 17 | -10, -3, 4, 11, 18…
