What is a Title I school?

The intent of Title I is to ensure that all children have a fair, equal, and significant opportunity to obtain a high-quality education.

Title I provides funds to improve achievement of the lowest performing students, who are considered at-risk of failing and are enrolled in high poverty schools.

All activities supported with Title I monies must support

that intent –to raise achievement of students.

How are Consolidated funds spent?

Title funding must not replace state/local funds -it is supplemental.

Expenditures must match the school-wide improvement goals.

This year, our consolidated funds will be utilized to purchase:

*Personnel to reduce class size in the 5th grade and our Family Engagement Coordinator (part time).

*Technology & Supplies: For multiple years, we have invested in purchasing mobile labs of laptops, iPads, and Chromebooks (making a 1:1 ratio in grades K-5, with a combination of devices). This year, we will purchase replacement cords and batteries needed for existing computers and continue to update what we have. With available funds, we will purchase/replace student Chromebooks and replace outdated interactive boards in classrooms with panels.

*Instructional supplies

*Digital subscriptions of informational texts and reading/writing support. Digital programs to support learning.

How does our school participate in the Title I Program?

A needs analysis of school data and trends helps to target areas in which our school can improve, targeting our most “at-risk” students.

A School-wide Improvement Plan (SIP) is created and reviewed annually for our school by teachers, administrators, parents, and the school council.

This plan presents: current test data, descriptions of services offered to support student achievement, goals that are directly linked to school data, and a plan for expenditures to support yearly goals.

Can I access our School-wide Improvement Plan?

Our School-wide Improvement Plan (SIP) is reviewed every year and updated with new goals. Parents are invited to give feedback annually. The entire plan is available on our school website. Paper copies of our school’s plan can be obtained from the school office.

What are our school-wide academic needs for the 2023-2024 school year?

The specific academic needs of CVE students that are to be addressed in the schoolwide program plan will be:

The need to establish early fluency- Beginning in kindergarten, students will identify all correct letter sounds and attain 62 sight words; Read fluently on grade level in 1st-5th grades (as measured by the MAP assessment) and achieve individual projected growth. All grade levels will build appropriate reading foundations and help students to acquire grade-level skills (increase Lexiles).

The need to know all math facts with fluency (addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division). This will build a foundation for Numbers and Operations.

The need to demonstrate mastery in constructed responses. Students must have frequent and sustained practice writing in a variety of formats. This is a required skill and provides higher order thinking opportunities.

The need for every parent, student, and stakeholder, to be equipped to take ownership in student learning. We will continue to utilize parents as allies, to support student learning at home.

What are our school-wide goals for the 2023-2024 school year?

• Increase the percentage of students performing at the Proficient and Distinguished

levels in the areas of ELA and Math on the Georgia EOG.

  • ELA- from 38.7% Proficient (P) and Distinguished (D) in 2021 (71.77% were Developing, P, & D) to 43.7% (76.77% D, P, & D) in 2025.
  • Math- from 40.38% Proficient (P) and Distinguished (D) in 2021 (73.9% were D, P, & D) to 45.38% in (78.9% D, P, & D) 2025.

• Increase the percentage of students demonstrating “on-grade level” reading in grades 3 & 5.

  • Percentage of students on grade-level Lexile in 3rd & 5th from 64.92% (2021) to 70% (2025).

• Chattanooga Valley Elementary will implement Academic Parent Teacher Teams (APTT) to engage stakeholders in data-driven meetings to support student learning, with 85% in 2025 of our students represented at family meetings. (*2018- 64.6% attendance rate)

What can I expect from an APTT Parent Meeting with my child’s teacher?

All APTT team meetings will be 75 minutes (or less) in length. Meetings are held in varied formats (virtual or in-person). The meetings will cover the following:

•A review of student progress data.

•The establishment of individual academic goals.

•A demonstration of activities to use at home with your child.

•An opportunity to work with other parents from your child’s class to build community.

What tests will my child take this year?

•All students take assessments, both formative and summative in the classroom.

•DIBELS & DRA assessments will be utilized school-wide; MAP Benchmark Assessments will be administered in WC for grades 1-5 in 2023-2024. GKIDS is administered to kindergarten only.

•Students in 3rd-5th grades will take the Georgia Milestones End of Grade Test (EOG) in the areas of ELA, Math, & Science (*5th grade only).

*Students in Grades 3 & 5 must earn an “On-grade level” Reading score in order to be promoted. Students in Grade 5 must additionally pass the Mathematics section of the Georgia Milestones. Re-tests are administered in May, for students who do not meet promotion criteria.

Georgia Milestones Tests (at every grade level) will include the following question types:

• Open-ended (constructed-response) items in English Language Arts and Mathematics

• A writing component (in response to passages read by students)- within the English/Language Arts Assessment

• Multiple-choice items in all content areas and courses

The Georgia Milestones is administered online for all students grades 3-5.

How is the Georgia Milestones Test (EOG) different than the CRCT?

How does the Walker County Standards-Based Grading (SBG) Policy benefit my student?

The intent of our county’s SBG process is to offer students the opportunity to master standards.

Students have the opportunity to reassess standards, which they did not originally master.

*Note- This year, all CVE students (1st-5th grades) will receive grades following the 100 point scale. Teachers will also report levels of mastery that correspond to the Georgia Milestones performance standards (Beginning, Developing, Proficient, or Distinguished)
