Westbound streets used by cyclists to enter NDG
Association of Pedestrians & Cyclists of NDG
5 members counted 6 intersections
from 5:15 - 6:15 PM on June 26 2018
NDG Ave is eastbound only so not counted
Marcil was only included to determine why it was just as popular as Girouard for northbound cyclists (Refer to northbound count). Turns out ⅔ of cyclists continued north on Marcil to cross Sherbrooke vs turning left on it.
Most cyclists used the busiest streets without any bike markings!
Streets WITH bike markings (green) were barely used.
Streets WITHOUT bike markings (red) were mainly used!
Conclusion: We need protected bike lanes on main arteries!
Cote Saint-Luc, Monkland, Sherbrooke...
It’s no coincidence they also have a large number of reported bike incidents.
Addendum: Notes on how cyclists crossed the intersections.
Addendum: Map of counts
Most cyclists traversed the intersections going straight without turning.
NDG ave. was used in the AM to exit NDG
But this survey was for entering NDG
Exception for Terrebonne: Cyclists turned left on Girouard
