When Frida was a teenager she was in a terrible bus accident.
Because of the accident she was bedridden for most of her life.
During Frida’s time there was no TV or video games. There was only radio, books, and making art.
Bored with books and radio Frida borrowed a set of her dad’s paints and started making paintings.
However because she was confined to her bed she started to make self-portraits.

She made many self-portraits, 55 in all.
In these portraits she often looked very serious. Probably because she was concentrating her painting.

In many of the paintings the background was just as important as anything else. It was these backgrounds that had the most to tell.
Frida would paint in objects that would be meaningful to her and her life story.
