But usually “water” has trace amounts of other materials, some of them are good and others are bad

What are the main uses of water in our body.
Water is mostly used to make fluids like blood, tears, sweet, pee, digestive juices, saliva, mucuses, and joint liquid.
Water is used in our muscles and bones. And is stored in fat and usually gets out via our lungs, pee, poo, tears and sweat.
How does our body digest water?
Water is absorbed by the small intestines, and circulated throughout the body in the form of body fluids.

After the water gets absorbed and turns into mostly blood, it passes through the liver and turns into two parts clean blood, and pee

Does water taste?
Water has minerals such as iron, copper and lead that all have there own taste. So yes water does have taste
We use water to make saliva, which then moves our food and drinks to our taste buds to make it easier for us to taste.
How does water help plants?
Plants are about 80-95% water and need water for multiple reasons like photosynthesis the process of plants as they use sunlight, water, and carbon dioxide to make oxygen and sugar.

Minerals and nutrients need to be soluble to be absorbed by roots and transported around the plant. If the soil is too dry, mineral nutrients may be present, but can't be taken by the plant. As there's not enough water to transport them.
How do fish breathe?
Most fish have gills which are organs that allow them to absorb oxygen into their body and pass it though their blood to oxidize it.
And just like “humans” fish use blood to transport nutrients, hormones, and unlike humans toxins.
