To enhance the social sciences' contribution to humanitarian action, we must: (III)

1. BUILD CONSENSUS about the value, relevance, and application of socio-behavioural science and community data in humanitarian action, and counter the common misunderstanding that it is complex, academic-driven, and time-consuming.

2. STRENGTHEN THE APPLICATION of social science and other community data across the humanitarian program cycle (versus in outbreaks and other public health contexts).

3. LEGITIMIZE AND VALUE THE CONTRIBUTION of feedback data, qualitative studies, KAP and perception surveys, and track their impact to better understand the needs and priorities of affected communities and respond accordingly.

4. SHIFT AWAY FROM COLONIAL VIEWS and Eurocentric perspectives of humanitarian action towards a more community-based approach that prioritizes the perspectives and knowledge of affected people, fosters fair relationships and collaborative partnerships, and promotes true inclusion of communities in humanitarian action.

5. RECOGNIZE THE VALUE OF COORDINATION AND INTERDISCIPLINARY encounters in improving evidence production, sharing, and operationalisation.

6. ESTABLISH ORGANIZATIONAL ECOSYSTEMS AND STRUCTURES dedicated to social and behavioural science to support the integration of social science data, community engagement and feedback and other forms of local listening in the humanitarian sector.

7. INVEST IN LONG-TERM POSITIONS AND EXPERTISE of local humanitarian actors and leaders to collect, analyse, and use community data. But also ensure that social scientists are adequately trained in humanitarian architecture complexities and priorities.

8. STANDARDIZE TOOLS AND ETHICAL FRAMEWORKS to make them fit-for-purpose and promote consistency across humanitarian contexts. We also need to decolonize frameworks and standard operating procedures (SOPs) guiding how interactions with affected people take place.

9. TACKLE EVIDENTIARY INERTIA and turn data into action. Ensure joint efforts with different ators to minimize barriers (response, structural, and organisational) to transform data into operational recommendations and realistic actions, and to avoid community frustration.
