  • Monitoring behavior
  • Supporting reading at home – Plastic Books Folders coming home soon. Please use the resources inside, but please keep them in the folder. The reading folders should come back and forth.
  • Sending in a healthy snack – you may send in two – one for morning and one for afternoon. You may also send in a water bottle.
  • Sending in tissues as well as other supplies. It is very much appreciated and thoughtful of you!

Information

  • Student entrance into the building will begin at 8:30-8:50.
  • Grab and go breakfast will be available in the cafeteria.
  • Doors will not open early for breakfast.
  • Two twenty minute recesses.
  • WatchDog Dads should be back this year (need clearances)
  • Please let Nurse Nadine know if your son or daughter has any food allergies or medical conditions.

Language Arts

  • Reading Workshop – Mini-Lesson, Independent Reading, Partner Reading, conferencing and small groups, share out, shared reading, and interactive read-aloud
  • Writing Workshop - Mini-Lesson, conferencing, small group, and share out.
  • Reading: Decoding, Comprehension, fluency
  • Phonics - Mini-Lesson, student demonstration, Rug Clubs,and share
  • Fountas & Pinnell (used to determine reading level) – Please understand that this is a “snap shot” at the time. We may be working with different “levels” during small group.
  • Support from our Reading Specialist and intervention specialists
  • Please have your child read every evening.

Math

  • Our math program is called Eureka Math. It is based on and aligned to the common core standards. First Grade will be piloting this program this year.
  • The 1st Grade Math program emphasizes the following:
  • Module 1: Sums and Differences to 10
  • Module 2: Introduction to Place Value Through Addition and Subtraction within 20
  • Module 3: Ordering and Comparing Length Measurements as Numbers
  • Module 4: Place Value, Comparison, Addition and Subtraction to 40
  • Module 5: Identifying, Composing, and Partitioning Shapes
  • Module 6: Place Value, Comparison, Addition and Subtraction to 100

  • Math – There will be a “Problem Set” that is completed in class. Typically we start out with more whole group and will transition into guided math and math stations.
  • I typically send home the Problem Set and homework.
  • I do not require the homework be sent back in. It’s up to you whether it is completed.

1st grade Progress Notes are given each Trimester. The Progress Notes are Standards Based.

Home & School Connection

PLEASE pick up your child on time

● Please send in a note if your child will be going home differently than the

dismissal information shows.

● Please complete health conditions on Skyward.

● Please let the school nurse of any new medical conditions.

* Please send in an extra set of clothing in your child’s bookbag

  • In the effort to conserve paper,important information will be posted on my

website, and communicated through class Dojo.

  • Field Trip – Lancaster Science Factory - sometime in Spring
  • As per the Student/Parent Handbook: Just a friendly reminder that we

cannot accept any food or gifts for birthday celebrations. This is a district

policy.

  • All volunteers and chaperones must have clearances complete and up to date. For information please contact our school office.
  • Consider being a part of our wonderful PTO
  • Watch Dog Dads will return this year.
