I have had the pleasure of working at PS 19 for 20 years. I have taught multiple grades throughout my time here. This will be my fourth year teaching PreK. I have taught Kindergarten for many years.I have an early childhood speciality.

Your child’s success and happiness is extremely important to me.

The goal of our preschool program is to help children learn through play. Through play, children develop communication, social, physical, problem-solving and creative skills.

Arrival and Dismissal

All students will be dropped off outside of the play yard. Students will go up to the classroom at 8:20 with me.

Students are dismissed at the same location as arrival. Students are dismissed at 2:30.

Please be on time for your child. If you are running late, contact the main office. . Do not send me an email. I do not check email when I am with the children.

Attendance

Please have your child arrive to school on time. School starts each day at 8:20. If they are going to be late, please let me o the main office know. Pre-K students are not allowed in the cafeteria for breakfast at 7:45 and cannot enter until 8:20 due to different supervision requirements for pre-K.

Being present in school is very important for your child. At PS 19 we strive for 95% attendance.

We take AM and PM attendance daily.

A Look At Our Day

-All students are given breakfast.

-Children wash their hands frequently throughout the day.

-We have indoor play/center time several times a day. Students rotate from one activity to another.

- We have outside play time twice a day. Please be sure to dress your child accordingly. This may change once the construction begins in the yard.

-We hear many stories and play lots of games.

-All children are given hot lunch. They can eat their own lunch from home as well.

-Students have rest time. I encourage you to send in a stuffed toy or small light weight blanket for your child each day. All items should be in a bag.

Lunch

Children are served lunch each day at school. I try to encourage them to try something that the school supplies. Children are never forced to eat school lunch.

Candy and soda are not permitted for your child’s lunch. We are trying to encourage children to make healthy eating choices.

Birthdays and Holidays

Your children should be celebrated! We welcome in class celebrations.

Approved party snacks include individual wrapped items such as cupcakes. No cakes, candles, noisemakers and balloons are allowed. Gift bags will not be distributed. Suggestion is a class donation: pencils, books etc…
Beverages may include juice boxes or individual water bottles.
Absolutely NO NUTS allowed. Many of our classrooms are peanut free since we have children with severe allergies.
Goody bags, candy or treats, party favors, balloons, decorations, entertainment and candles are not permitted.

If you have a special holiday that your family celebrates, please let me know.

Parent Engagement

Most of our communication will come to you via Operoo emails or DOE emails.

The best way to reach me is via email. I will get back to you normally within 24 hours.

Miscellaneous

Children need to wear sneakers every day. We spend a lot of time playing.

All children should bring a snack. We have snack time each day. The school does not provide snacks.

Rest time blankets should be a small blanket or sheet.

Please send me an email or call the school if your child is going to be absent.

Please send in a change of clothes for your child. We need these in case your child has an accident. Please have the clothes in a bag with your child’s name on it.

Please send in a family picture for us to hang up on the family/birthday wall. Children love seeing their families during the school day.

Please send your child’s orange folder to school with your child each day.

I will send home weekly notices about the upcoming week. This usually happens on a Friday. The notices will be sent electronically.

My messages will come through OPEROO or my email directly.

Please return your child’s ASQ2 and ASQ3 forms back to school as soon as possible. They were sent home in your child’s purple folder. If you have done this already, thank you.
