Community Agriculture:

• Students in this two-year program will develop practical knowledge in the areas of animal and plant science, agribusiness management, and environmental stewardship
• Students develop skills for both careers in the agriculture industry and post-secondary education.
• Students will be highly engaged in the community through hands-on, authentic learning experiences.
• Partnerships with community food assistance programs and local businesses will broaden students’ perspectives.

The Day to Day

• Days are typically a mix between classroom work and lab.
• Lab rotations include various stations:
• Culinary Mushrooms/Compost
• Greenhouse Production
• Chickens
• Hydroponics Lab
• CFHS Fresh Farm Garden
• Special Projects
• Students will rotate between stations throughout the year.
• Field Trips Have Included:
• Ohio State ATI Wooster
• Cuyahoga Valley National Park
• Let’s Grow Akron
• Living City Farms
• Oxbow Orchards.

Why Do We Do What We Do?

​

• Community agriculture students recognize the importance of being good stewards of the environment and to be of service to others.
• Since 2018, we have donated over 16,000 lbs of food to those in need.
• Since 2022, over 4,500 lbs of food waste from our cafeteria has been collected and turned into compost.
• We share our knowledge and passion for agriculture by providing tours of our program, participating in community events, and supporting learning gardens throughout the area.
