Curriculum (cont.)

  • District selected curriculum will be used along with outside materials and materials that I will create and modify.

Homework

  • Homework will be sent home each night from Monday through Thursday.
  • Per District Policy (BP.6154):
    • 5th graders should have between 0 and 50 minutes of homework per evening.
    • Based on the amount of time an average student should complete the work.
    • Not assigned over the weekend (assigned on Friday and due on Monday).
  • Occasional projects with clear instructions and deadlines.

Homework

  • Usually math and ELA homework
  • It is also recommended that the students read for 30 minutes each night.
  • If there is an issue, please write me a note about the homework.

Homework Record Sheet

  • The students fill out the homework sheet at the end of each school day.
  • The daily homework is also listed on my website.
  • The color of the sheet doesn’t matter.

Grading

  • Homework will be checked, and a red checkmark will be placed in the lower right corner to indicate that it was looked at.

  • Grading is standards based
  • Tests, projects, and in class assignments will be graded using a rubric
  • Each standard will have its own row (a test or project may have several different standards measured).

Grading (cont.)

  • Report Cards at the end of each trimester (November, March, June)
  • Progress Reports in the middle of each trimester (as needed)
  • Parent-Teacher conferences - October 22 - 24
  • Graded work will be sent home regularly (usually on Fridays in the Friday folder)
  • Some graded work will be available in the students’ Google account (online tests, writing pieces)

Behavior

  • Necessary for successful learning
  • Class points to fill the marble jar (fun reward)
  • Most behaviors will be dealt with in the classroom
  • Repeated issues will be discussed with parents
  • Some behaviors, such as fighting or repeated bullying will result in a child being sent to the principal’s office.
  • As a school, we utilize PBIS as a way to teach and reinforce proper behavior.

  • Several students with food allergies
  • Please do not bring in food (i.e. cupcakes, cookies)
  • If you or your child want to bring in something, please bring in goody bags. These will be handed out at the end of the school day.

Science Camp

  • Science Camp – January 6 – 9, 2026
  • Science Camp Informational Meeting (Zoom) – September 2, 2025 @ 6:00 PM – Link will be sent home later this week
  • There will be several fundraisers during the year (such as Panda Express) to help those families that may need help paying for camp.
