Hope
Jeremiah 29:11
“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”
Romans 15:13
“May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in Him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.”
Hebrews 10:23
“Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for He who promised is faithful.”
Psalm 71:14
“As for me, I will always have hope; I will praise You more and more.”
Cyber Parallel: The message of Holy Book is clear. Hope has to be there. In Cyber, we always need hope to be on right side of law and safe. Hope is force to live happily in this world.
Corinthians 10:13 (NIV)
“No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it.”
Addiction
The Digital Growth and the Vulnerability
Contd……2
Forms of Digital Addiction & Risk• Excessive Internet use (browsing, gaming, streaming) to the point where it interferes with academics, sleep, relationships. Studies show links with poor diet, sleep deprivation, low self-esteem, anxiety and depression. Dove Medical Press+1
• Social media addiction: Constant checking of apps like Instagram, reels, endless scrolling, looking for likes/shares, algorithm-driven engagement. This fosters distraction, reduced attention spans, comparison, anxiety. • Cyber-addictions such as gaming, online gambling, pornography, which often overlap with other addictions and raise risk of social isolation.
• Risks of Cyber-crime, Cyber-fraud, identity-theft, online exploitation. India recorded over 4.5 lakh Cybercrime cases in 2021, rising to over 22.5 lakh cases in 2024. Medianama
Contd….2
• Govt. data shows Cybersecurity incidents in India rose from 10.29 lakh in 2022 to 22.68 lakh in 2024.
• Digital Arrest
• Digital Payment frauds
• Fake Videos
• Instagram Image Scams
• Job Scams
• Phishing emails
Human Psychology and Cyber RisksAs per studies only 18% Cyber risks frauds are because of technological reasons, rest are driven due to Human Psychology-
• Greed and Reward-Seeking
• Fear and Urgency
• Overconfidence and Optimism Bias
• Love & Lust
• Curiosity and Impulsivity
• Trust and Authority Bias
• Social Conformity and Peer Pressure
• Habituation and Negligence
• Emotional Manipulation
• Cognitive Overload and Fatigue
• Lack of Awareness and Education
Therefore, we all are vulnerable not only to the behavioral harms of overuse, but also to predatory harms: Cyber‐fraud, privacy violation, online pornography, manipulation via algorithms or fake profiles. And our young generation and students also face same situation.

In this behalf the Bible says as under - 1) Scripture: 'You shall not bear false witness' (Exodus 20:16)
2) Scripture: 'It is required that those who have been given a trust must prove faithful.' (1 Corinthians 4:2)
“Wholeness and Hope” is the Right Framing
Contd…2
“Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—His good, pleasing and perfect will.”
Cyber Parallel: In Cyber world, we have to be guided by our mind and not the fake, false narrative of this world.
As Holy Book says, we have to think noble, right, pure, admirable, excellent… than we would be safe from cyber risks.
Guidance for Practical Steps & Principles
• Set boundaries: Allocate dedicated “screen-free” times. Use apps or settings to monitor your screen time.
Contd…2
• Mindful use of social media: Ask: “Why am I opening this app?” Is it for connection/learning or purely for escape?
• Engage in offline activities: Exercise, hobbies, friendships, volunteering. These strengthen real-world grounding.
• Educate yourself on Cyber‐risks: Be aware of phishing, fake profiles, data-leaks, pornography traps. Protection of privacy is also part of being whole.
• Seek help early: When you feel restless without the device, irritable when disconnected, or falling behind in academics—these are warning signs.

Hopeful Outcomes & the Role of Cyber Security
Contd…2
The Bible in this behalf says
Romans 15:4 – “For everything that was written in the past was written to teach us, so that through the endurance taught in the Scriptures and the encouragement they provide we might have hope.”
Cyber Parallel: Whatever is written in past was safe but modern world social media, internet has led us to cyber risks and cyber/net addictions.
Contd…3
•Truth and Transparency: Promote honesty and integrity online.
•Love Your Neighbor: Respect privacy and avoid harm.
•Justice: Defend the vulnerable from cyber exploitation.
•Discernment: Identify false information and unethical AI use.
