Locate Official Documents:

The fastest method for your own business is finding the IRS confirmation letter (CP 575) or bank account statements

Call the IRS:

If you are an authorized person (Board member), call the IRS Business & Specialty Tax Line at 800-829-4933 between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. local time, Monday through Friday.

IRS Tax Exempt Search:

Use the IRS Tax Exempt Organization Search tool to find EINs for non-profit organizations.

Check State Records: Look at state-level filing documents for LLCs via the Secretary of State website.

Create/Establish Board

    • If By-Laws exist, make sure they are relevant and being followed
    • If they don’t exist, use template to create.
    • By-Laws may need to be submitted to move forward in the process
    • $25 to the State of Texas
    • Takes a few days to receive
    • Fill out the 202 form in PDF format and save
    • Create an account in the SOS and upload to the portal

    • If you have one, make sure it’s set up as a nonprofit

    • Bank will need meeting minutes with the board members listed
