Why is it so important to testify on the beginning of the month? Because the Sanhedrin would know when the month starts and could determine the dates of the Chagim – Jewish holidays. Yom Kippur is on the 10th day after the sanctification of the month of Tishrei. Passover is on the 14th day after the sanctification of the month of Nissan. So… setting the dates of the Jewish holidays is dependent on setting the day of the new month! The month ends on the day that the moon totally disappears. | למה זה כל כך חשוב להעיד על תחילת חודש? כך היו קובעים מתי א' בחודש, ולפי זה יודעים מתי חלים החגים. יום כיפור חל ביום העשירי לקידוש חודש תשרי. פסח ביום הארבעה-עשר יום מקידוש החודש בחודש ניסן וכן הלאה. אז בעצם זמן קיום החגים תלוי בקביעת ראש חודש ! ביום שנעלם לגמרי, מסתיים החודש. |
