FOCUS: BACK TENSION

ARCHERY IS MAINLY JUST YOUR BACK MUSCLES. TO DRAW THE BOW, YOU WANT TO FOCUS ON JUST BRINGING THE SHOULDER BLADES TOGETHER AROUND YOUR SPINE

AS YOU BUILD BACK TENSION THROUGHOUT YOUR SHOT CYCLE, YOU NEED TO CONSTANTLY FEEL IT INCREASING AND NEVER DECREASING UNTIL AFTER YOU’VE COMPLETED YOUR RELEASE AND FOLLOW THROUGH.

THIS ENSURES YOU’RE NOT ENGAGING UNNECESSARY PARTS OF YOUR BODY TO DRAW AND MAINTAIN THE WEIGHT OF THE BOW.

REMEMBER, WHEN TRANSFERING IN TERMS OF ALIGNMENT, YOU WANT TO GET YOUR ARMS POSTERIOR BEHIND YOUR HEAD AS FAR AS POSSIBLE WITHOUT MOVING YOUR HAND OFF YOUR ANCHOR POINT

TO DO THIS, FOCUS MORE ON ROTATING THAT DRAW SHOULDER BLADE EVEN TIGHTER AROUND YOUR SPINE, NOT ON BENDING/SHIFTING THE ARM OR SHOULDERS

TRANSFERRING ALSO APPLIES TO YOUR BOW-SHOULDER AS WELL AS YOUR DRAW-SHOULDER

EVEN THOUGH YOU SHOULD HAVE POSITIONED AND FELT SOME TENSION BUILD IN YOUR BOW-SHOULDER DURING YOUR SET-UP STAGE, YOU WANT TO ENSURE YOU APPLY THE IDEA OF FEELING THE SQUEEZE ON BOTH SIDES OF YOUR BODY.

WHEN YOU’RE PULLING ON THE ROPE, YOU’RE PRIMING YOUR BODY TO PULL AS FAR BACK AS POSSIBLE, EVEN IF YOU’RE NOT ACTUALLY MOVING DUE TO YOUR OPPONENT DOING THE SAME EXACT THING

IF YOUR OPPONENT SUDDENLY LETS-GO OF THE ROPE (OR IF IT’S SUDDENLY CUT) THOUGH, YOU WILL FALL BACKWARDS, NOT BECAUSE YOU’RE “FORCING” YOURSELF TO FALL, BUT BECAUSE THAT’S HOW MUCH YOU PRIMED YOUR BODY

THE DRAW SIDE OF YOUR BODY IS BASICALLY PLAYING TUG-OF-WAR WITH THE BOW
