The curriculum is everything we do. We offer a vast co-curricular programme.

It is the expectation that all students will be involved in at least one co-curricular opportunity per half-term.

Assessment

You will receive a timetable and an outline of the content to be covered in each assessment to ensure you are able to support your child in revising for these assessments. All assessment information is on the school website and Google classroom.

Formal assessment periods will be starting the weeks beginning :

Assessments will focus on the content and skills taught that term, with 25% of the assessment testing their retention of previous topics.

Students will get detailed feedback and a score out of 100.

At the end of each term, parents and carers will receive a report containing information about their child:

  • Attendance (expectation 97% +)
  • GCSE working at grades and predicted grades for Yr11
  • Punctuality ( expectation 0 lates)
  • Number of positive house points
  • Number of negative behaviour points
  • Number of missed homeworks
  • Assessment % for each subject
  • Average % for the cohort
  • Effort Score (1-4)

Reports will be followed by a progress review meeting with your child’s Form Tutor or Head of Year.

In response to feedback from students and parents, there will be a timetable for the Core curriculum. Furthermore, all subjects will set homework as assessment on Google Classroom and students will be given a week to complete homework.

How can you support your child’s academic progress?

  • Check their exercise books weekly. Make sure they are taking pride in their work.
  • Make sure they are reading, including the news. We have invested in The Day for all students. Read at least one article with your child a week.

  • Google Classroom is the online learning platform used to set homework and share resources

  • The Google Classroom app is available to download on all smart devices and can also be accessed via a PC, laptop or tablet.
  • Other key apps that are linked to Google Classroom would also be useful to download such as Google Docs, Google Slides and Google Drive. These apps will help your child upload their work more easily.

  • Google Classroom should be checked daily by students.
  • Students must take responsibility for their HW but parents should supervise and encourage the production of high quality work; it is key that your interest in their engagement is consistent
  • Provide good working conditions at home
  • Encourage your child to work in the LRC if they struggle at home, open before school from 8am and after school until 4.30pm
  • Accept your parent/guardian invite and you can receive daily or weekly updates on your child’s homework.

Examples of behaviour that warrant a warning:

  • Lateness
  • Talking
  • Unnecessary / inappropriate comments
  • Failure to fully engage in the lesson
  • Failure to evidence work when asked, for example by uploading screenshots to Google Classroom
  • Lack of effort
  • Inadequate work
  • Failure to submit homework
  • Any behaviour that distracts the teacher from teaching or the students from learning

If your child receives an OnCall, they are automatically placed into a 1 hour detention, that day. The severity of their behaviour will be reviewed by SLT and a further sanction may be issued.

Warnings restart at the beginning of each lesson.

Students who receive a high number of behaviour points, Oncalls and / or concerning effort / behaviour scores in their termly reports will be placed on report with their Form Tutor.

If a significant and sustained improvement in effort and behaviour is not evident, they will be referred to their Head of Year.

If there is continued cause for concern, students will be place on a Pastoral Support Plan and may be later be considered for our onsite alternative provision - Almitas House.

  • Tie (with white shirt only)
  • Skirt or Trousers
  • Black School Shoes

Skirts should be knee length and only one small stud in each ear is permitted.

  • Do not call or text your child AT ALL during the school day. If you need to get in contact with your child then please call the Pupils’ Office and we will get a message to them or they can be collected to speak to you.
  • Phones should be kept turned off and out of sight at all times.
  • We cannot accept responsibility for phones which are brought on the school site.
  • Students who have mobile phones must not under any circumstances use their mobile phone in school. We will confiscate their phone and they will receive a 1 hour same day detention.

  • If students are feeling unwell during the day then they should alert a member of staff who will escort them to the Pupils’ Office, where our Welfare Officer will make a decision about their care and wellbeing
  • Students should NOT call home at all during the day to report they are unwell. They must go to the Pupils’ Office first who will then contact home., if necessary.
  • Staff are on duty at all times; your child will be supervised during break and lunchtime in case any incidents or accidents occur.

  • Bishopshalt is committed to promoting good attendance and punctuality.
  • Good attendance and punctuality at school helps to facilitate a good education. It enhances career prospects and minimises the risks of pupils conducting anti-social behaviour or becoming the victims or perpetrators of crime or abuse.
  • Regular attendance enhances pupils’ social skills.

  • All pupils are expected to maintain attendance above 97%.
  • Medical evidence must be provided where absence is taken for this reason.
  • All absences must be called in to the school by 8am the same day.
