Our Daily Schedule

The fifth grade team of teachers (Ms. Miller, Mrs. McKeough, Mrs. Stoliker, Mr.Morgan, and Ms.Conklin), will be keeping close track of student academic achievement as well as citizenship/behavior choices. We will contact you if there are any major concerns prior to parent/teacher conferences. Otherwise, we look forward to that time to update you on your child’s progress and successes.

Some of the basic expectations we have for 5th graders:

  1. All students will be expected to complete all homework and have it in school on time each day. Students who do not have homework completed AND with them for class may be assigned a recess detention so he/she can complete the assignment(s). Students will also sign the Homework Excuses book. Completing homework is a grade level expectation and all students, regardless of homeroom, will be held to the same expectations and consequences.
  2. Students will use his/her agenda to keep track of daily and/or long term assignments. This not new to Mayfield students, but it is now an INDEPENDENT expectation. This means that the teachers will write the assignments on the board and give students time to write them in his/her agenda. However, the teacher will not be “checking/signing” to make sure the assignments are written in the agenda. The students need to learn this organization skill and begin the process of academic responsibility. We do encourage parents to ask to see the agenda each night and have a home expectation for the agenda to be filled in with assignments. *If you write a note to a teacher in the agenda, please remind your child to show it to the teacher.
  3. All students will also be encouraged to show positive behavior and citizenship skills on a daily basis. Students who struggle with this will be encouraged daily to improve.

Your child has science or social studies every day. We alternate between the two subjects. For example, we did chapter 1 in science for 6 days and then covered chapter 1 in social studies. Then, studied chapter 2 in science.

I do not assign daily homework for these subjects, but if work isn’t finished in class it may need to be done for homework. However, when applicable, students do need to study for quizzes and tests and will be assigned long term projects that may require work outside of the school day.

In both subjects students will use multiple resources to learn, including but not limited to: textbooks, interactive notebooks, Readworks, Nearpods, Edpuzzles, and hands-on projects.

Students have a Google classroom for Science and one for Social Studies. You can check there for assignments and grades.

Hello! I am Mrs. Stoliker and I teach math!

stoliker.samantha@mayfieldcsd.org

On November 23rd, I will be leaving for a few months due to my maternity leave. The students will be in great hands from Nov. 29th-Feb. 11th. My substitute, Mr. Mattus, comes with 20+ years of experience and is eager to be filling in for me during this time! I will be sending out more information about this leave in the near future.

Homework and Test Expectations

Your student has math homework most nights of the week. Homework following a new lesson is a front-back sheet straight from the Go Math book. That is expected to be turned in the next morning and will be returned the following day at school. If your student has a “c+r” on their paper, that means they must correct and return their homework assignment.

Your student is also expected to study for tests. They can do this by reviewing lessons from the chapter as well as studying the review test that we complete together in class. All tests and Mid Chapters below a 65 must be signed and returned to me.

This Year in Math!

We have 11 chapters to cover in Go Math this year! So far we have worked with Place Value through the millions, multi-digit multiplication, long division, and have recently started Place Value with decimals!

We will continue learning how to solve decimal problems through all of the operations and then move on to learning how to solve fraction problems through all of the operations.

Our last few chapters are a smorgasbord of lessons where the students will learn about patterns and graphing, geometry, measurements, and conversions, as well as volume!

Resources and Materials!

5th graders can expect to use their Go Math books daily, along with their composition notebooks for extra notes and practice.

IXL has been used as an instructional tool to support current and previous lessons as part of our morning work routine.

Students also have access to our Math Google Classroom where we have a meet link provided as needed for any remote learning situations.
