STANDARD PROCESS (p3)

A sinful activity cannot be counteracted by a pious activity. Thus real prayascitta, atonement, is the awakening of our dormant Krsna consciousness. Real atonement involves coming to real knowledge, and for this there is a

Bhukti, Mukti, Siddhi 🡪 Restlessness

Krishna bhakta 🡪 peaceful & happy

If one has any personal selfish desire, whether it be material, philosophical or mystic, he will be açänta, or ultimately frustrated, because he will see himself as the central object of satisfaction.

On the other hand, kåñëa-bhakta niñkäma, ataeva 'çänta': [Cc. Madhya 19.149] a devotee of Lord Kåñëa is niñkäma; he has no personal desire. His only desire is to please Kåñëa. [SB 11.2.43]

  • jïänés desire liberation, and

Vaco vegam: urge to speak

The conclusion is that only when we talk about devotional service to the Supreme Personality of Godhead can we refrain from useless nonsensical talk. We should always endeavor to use our speaking power solely for the purpose of realizing Krsna consciousness. [Text One purport, p9]

29 of 37

A toad in a field speaks by croaking, and similarly everyone who has a tongue wants to speak, even if all he has to say is nonsense. The croaking of the toad, however, simply invites the snake: “Please come here and eat me.” Nevertheless, although it is inviting death, the toad goes on croaking. The talking of materialistic men and impersonalist Māyāvādī philosophers may be compared to the croaking of frogs. They are always speaking nonsense and thus inviting death to catch them. [NOI Verse 1]

My dear Lord Nåsiàhadeva, I see that there are many saintly persons indeed, but they are interested only in their own deliverance. Not caring for the big cities and towns, they go to the Himalayas or the forest to meditate with vows of silence [mauna-vrata]. They are not interested in delivering others. As for me, however, I do not wish to be liberated alone, leaving aside all these poor fools and rascals. I know that without Kåñëa consciousness, without taking shelter of Your lotus feet, one cannot be happy. Therefore I wish to bring them back to shelter at Your lotus feet. [SB 7.9.44]

Control mind

Problem of the mind: Restlessness / fickle

Cannot negate thoughts and create vacuum;

Idle mind attracts anarthas (unwanted desires)

Yogic process to negate mind of all thoughts- to create a vacuum in the mind is artificial, it will not remain.

If one always thinks of Krsna and how to serve Krsna best, the mind will automatically be controlled

Manasah vegam: mind’s demands

However, if one always thinks of Krsna and how to serve Krsna best, one's mind will naturally be controlled. [Text One purport, p5]
