What is World Meditation Day?

  • World Meditation Day takes place annually on December 21st.
  • It was established in 2024 to raise awareness about meditation and its benefits to mental, emotional and physical health.
  • Meditation is an ancient practice, dating from 5000 BCE, that involves training your mind to focus on the present moment.
  • It is practised by between 200-500 million people worldwide.

Tips to Build a Meditation Habit

  1. Find a time that works for you. When would a period of mindfulness benefit you?
  2. Start small. See if you can do a daily 5 minute meditation.
  3. Pair meditation with an established habit. e.g. after brushing your teeth or eating lunch.
  4. Set an intention. Why are you meditating? For inner peace? Stress relief?
  5. Find a comfortable position and a quiet place.
