FIRST DAY IN GREAT CANARY

We landed in Great Canary the 23rd of November.

The first thing that impressed me was the weather: because here in Portici there were only 5ºC, but in Great Canary there were 26ºC!

Despite some of us had to wait for their Canarian partners to come, it has been worth it; we spent an amazing period in Great Canary and we enjoyed it with all of our hearts.

PUERTO DE MOGÀN

The first day, my host family and I went to Puerto de Mogàn, a typical place to see there.

It is a very nice port with several shops where you can buy some souvenirs or stuff like that.

We spent the afternoon there and then we went back home.

SECOND DAY IN GREAT CANARY

We went to school at 8 o'clock in the morning, as here in Italy.

We presented our power points; the lessons finished at 2 pm.

The Canarian school organization is so different from the Italian one: every specialization in only one school!

MELONERAS

The afternoon we went to Meloneras, a more touristic place with a lot of shops and restaurants, we saw some capturing thing as the sand sculpture in the first picture, we also went to a place called "Pinguino" where we ate some delicious crepes.

At the end of the evening we went back to our home.

THIRD DAY IN GREAT CANARY

The third day we had a school trip to Vegueta, the capital city of Great Canary.

It is mainly known for its cathedral and market.

We passed the day there and went back home in the afternoon.

P.s. It is interesting to think about how the Neapolitan culture has also spread abroad as we can see in the first two pictures that show two different places in Great Canary with Neapolitan names.

FOURTH DAY IN GREAT CANARY

In the morning we had our classes in English and we presented other power points dealing with different topics.

In the afternoon we all went to the beach, we had a fantastic time all together and we had the amazing opportunity to see the awesome sunsets of these beautiful islands.

FIFTH DAY IN GREAT CANARY

Probably this day has been my favourite one just because I ate the "paella" a typical Spanish dish made with rise and sea food or meat, the only one problem was that they eat everything with garlic and they always use a particular sauce called "aioli" made with garlic and mayo, that I didn't really like.

MASPALOMAS DUNES

Visiting the dunes has been very exhausting: we had to walk for half an hour on sand.

Maybe the funniest thing we saw, has been seeing the phrase "Feliz David", meaning "Merry Christmas", near the

sand of the dunes with a burning sun.

We also spent a great time together when we decided to go eating the "paella".

SIXTH DAY IN GREAT CANARY

During this day we did different activities: we did water sports, we visited the "Elder's Museum", a museum about natural sciences, engineering, astrology and other subjects.

Maybe the most captivating thing we saw in the museum has been the planetarium of which I have no photos, but was interesting also the part of the museum about colours in which every colour have its own room.

This was the day of our departure; we needed to go back to Portci even if we didn't want to.

Saying goodbye to our Spanish friends had been tough but we had to, so in the end, with tears in our eyes, we came back, knowing that we will meet again in March.

FINAL DAY IN GREAT CANARY

MY EXPERIENCE

All in all, this has been an enthusiamatic adventure that led us to learn lots of new things, as some spanish words or phrases such as "jo como" (I eat), "jo tiengo dieci-siete años" (I am 17) and others.

Unfortunately I didn't go out a lot with the others in the evening because my partner needed to study, so we went out only the last evening and we had a joyful time all together.

I think that Great Canary are to visit in summer as there isn't much to do and see, but I hope that I will be able to have a similar experience again since this one gave me a lot of possibilities and opportunities to talk in English, to learn new things and to meet other people.
