It’s the first day of classes! What to expect!

  • Due dates are FLEXIBLE, but are there to support you staying on pace! The goal will be to complete (and pass) the course requirements by the end of the semester.
  • There are 2 ways we measure progress at RVA. Grades and Pace. You may have great grades but be behind on what needs to be completed (pace). You will receive a Progress Report each month that will let you know if you are pace to finish on time.
  • If you are failing a class, you are likely not on pace. Once you turn in your completed work and it meets expectations, your grade will likely move up to passing. Reach out to your teacher with any questions about your grade or coursework progress!

What should I do today?

First, log into Schoology and click on each course one at a time to read your Schoology Updates! They will introduce you to your teacher and get you started in each class!

Next, check your email and Schoology Messages. If any staff have contacted you, be sure to reply! Introduce yourself! (It can be quick. For example, “Hi my name is _____, it’s nice to meet you!”

Third, Use this Assignment Planner or a planner of your choosing to make a list of the work that is due next week! Look at each class and write down (or type) each assignment and when it is due. This will be your check-off sheet! Then you will know when you have met your goal and completed the required assignments for the week!

Fourth, start following your in-home schedule. Are you working on one class per school day? Are you working on all of your classes everyday? Both work just fine! Pick which class you would like to start with and start completing assignments!

Reminders about RVA

  1. RVA is an asynchronous program. That means there are no live classes, work is released weekly, students work at their own pace, students create their own “in-home schedule” and can work on classes 24/7. Some special education classes due have live google meets and case managers will let students know.
  2. Attendance - Students need to log-in and mark their attendance daily in Infinite Campus and make progress each day. It doesn’t matter the time of day. If a student needs to skip an entire school day, please have a parent or guardian call you into the RVA office.
  3. In-home Schedule and Work Space - Students should create an in-home schedule and designate a work space. Consistency is key! Be sure to follow that schedule and work in the designated space (and limit in-home distractions like phones, tvs, video games, etc.)

Students can request a virtual meeting with teachers for additional support.

5. RVA Advisor Middle School - is always available to answer questions, provide support, link you to a teacher or support team. For immediate assistance, please contact the RVA Advisor (Angie_Senger@rdale.org)
