All K-5th grade students are eligible to ride the bus to after school programs (e.g. youth center, community program, etc.) if located 1+ mile from their school. This is arranged through the school clerk and Transportation Change Form (available on CPS website).

After school program includes classes that cover disciplines including the visual arts, dance, theater and media arts. All students participate in sequential, semester-long focus classes and present their work four times each year including at outdoor summer events, Arts Interactive, and our final spring show.

Cambridge Youth Programs (CYP) offers year-round, high-quality programming for pre-teens, middle schoolers, and teens at five Youth Centers across Cambridge. The King Open Extended Day Program is designed to link school-day and after school experiences for children and families enrolled in King Open School. The after school program is completely integrated into King Open School to support children’s social and academic learning by providing a holistic school experience from the moment they enter King Open building to the time that they are picked up.

WHAT
Classes are designed to build academic confidence and complement what children learn in school. Students have the choice of daily enrichment activities that focus on Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM), with arts and character development elements woven into all curriculum. Staff plan classes based on student interest and connect their lessons to the Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks. All youth also receive homework help.

PBHA’s Cambridge After School Program (CASP)
WHAT
Phillips Brooks House Association provides affordable and accessible after school programming, primarily with immigrant families. CASP offers daily homework help and practice with fundamental reading and math skills, students at CASP engage in workshops designed to complement academic curriculum.

Cambridge Math Circle
WHAT
Math Circle combines the best of American and Eastern European mathematical traditions by exposing children to fun, challenging math problems that they are unlikely to encounter in a traditional school setting or other math program. School Math uses nationally recognized curricula (BA and AoPS) to prepare students for more challenging math classes in high school and beyond.

Mass Art Saturday Studios
WHAT
Saturday Studios offers students in grades 3-12 the opportunity to explore their creativity. The program also supports the development of MassArt undergraduate and graduate students as art educators. Saturday Studios are taught by Art Education Student Teachers, who are supervised by Art Education faculty. Classes are open to all who are interested, from beginners to the emerging young artist. There are no prerequisites or portfolio reviews.
