Bealings Newsletter

4th April 2025

In this week’s meeting, we talked about how lucky we are to have such a fantastic space for building dens. To keep things fair and safe, we’ve agreed on a few simple rules:

If we use sticks as part of our dens, they must always be for peaceful purposes, and we must remember to be kind to each other.

We mustn’t take materials from each other’s dens—everyone’s hard work should be respected.

If anyone wants to dig on the field, that’s fine as long as it’s in the edges where grass isn’t growing. Any holes must be refilled afterward to avoid creating any hazards.

It was decided to trial dens with these rules in place and so far, so good!

And just like that, our Spring term ends!

It has been lovely to spend time with the children this week, looking at all the fabulous Mantle work that has gone on. On Monday, I came in and spent time with Year 1 learning about their phonics. Talking to Claire- who is the phonics lead- we agreed that some new books and resources were definitely needed. We will be working with the Wensum English Hub - who offer a lovely chunk of money and support to build up early reading resources and skills. Exciting! I spent the afternoon on Thursday looking through writing examples from the Year 6 group and was really impressed with the clear love of writing on display. Their Mantle work really supports this enthusiasm for writing offering lots of meaningful purpose and opportunity to write.

Looking ahead to the Summer term, we have lots of new and exciting Mantle work planned in - making learning irresistible! Year 5 and 6 are already looking forward to their performance. I hope to add in some more Celebration Assemblies to showcase the weekly learning going on. As things stand, I will remain with the school until further notice and look forward to seeing you in the Summer term!

Happy Easter all!

Years 5 and 6

This week on the island, we sensed that Javier Gonzalez was beginning to waver. He asked us for our proposals about how he could use the island as an eco-tourism resort.

“It needs lots of rules.”

“There’s no point saving the island if we just have planes flying in.”

“We need to make sure that nothing gets harmed.”

The team created their concept maps. Sr Gonzalez will appraise them over the holidays before making a decision . . .

Meanwhile, we also created beautiful dotty flowers for our wonderful Kate, based on the work of Yayoi Kusama. We used pens, wax crayons, watercolours and pencil crayons to create our stunning pieces.

Our latest posters worked! Grandma read one and came to say that she has room for a lonely wolf with her at her home. We just need to find wolf to let him know.

“Grandma will give him his own bookshelf because he loves reading.”

“We can send him a letter to tell him.”

“Wolf doesn’t have a home so he doesn’t have an address.”

“We can look for footprints with magnifying glasses.”

And this is just what we did. At the end of the footprints we left a letter for wolf, explaining Grandma’s plan. Happily, by the very next morning we received a photograph of wolf and Grandma together. Along with our biscuit reward from Grandma’s neighbour!

Years 1 and 2

Regency Building Company have worked hard to complete the task of renovating the old Nightingale Hospital into a new Nursing Home. The final task was to measure and put up a secure fence around the grounds. They worked together measuring how many metres of fencing they would need. Brochures have also been created to advertise Nightingale Lodge Nursing Home for local hospital.

“We have worked very hard as a team.”

“I hope the people will like enjoy staying here.”

“I think they will enjoy watching the wildlife from the windows.”

“They can also enjoy stepping back into the past and see what the old hospital was like if they visit the Nightingale Museum.”

Years 3 and 4

This week we were able to meet our friend from the stone age, and find ways to communicate through drawings. We lit a fire to create a portal, and wrote down our hopes for our friend to be reunited with their family again, then one by one placed them in a tin to be put into the fire.

We also finished reading our class book Stig of the Dump, a story that has aligned with the adventures in our mantle this term, and wrote some fantastic reviews that are now on display in the KS2 area. Wishing you all a lovely Easter break!
