Junior Kindergarten gives families an option to bridge the critical transition between preschool and kindergarten.

It provides an extra year of learning for children eligible with birth dates between June 1 and December 1, 2021. Junior Kindergarten would be the first year in a two-year Kindergarten experience.

What to consider before JK:

  • Academic Preparation - Knows and recognizes; name, difference between numbers & letters, colors and shapes

  • Fine Motor Development - Can write name, uses standard pencil grip, cuts with kid-size scissors, turns book pages gently

  • Snack/Lunch: Support your child’s independence with eating, opening containers and cleaning up after self

  • Clothing: Can change their own clothes, independently puts on shoes, coats, boots, snow pants…with extra time

  • Restroom: Independently tends to needs; washes hands, shuts door, zips, snaps, buttons

  • Verbal Communication - Expresses wants and needs

Kid’s Club Offered Monday-Friday�

  • Kid’s Club – mornings 7:00am – 8:50am
  • Kid’s Club – afternoon 3:50pm – 6:00pm
  • Kids Club-Half Days 11:50am -6:00 pm
  • Activities include: crafts, games, sports, outside play, snack, quiet place for homework. Flexible grouping of children for age appropriate activities.

Open Enrollment

  • If you live within BPS, but want to attend a school outside your neighborhood school, you can request OE to your preferred school. OE forms are available through the enrollment office.
  • OE requests are based on space available at the receiving school.
  • You are responsible for transportation
  • March 18- Open Enrollment Forms DUE
  • March 19- OE Order established.
  • Late April- Open Enrollments granted/denied.

Immunizations & Vision Requirements

  • Immunization records need to brought or sent to the office before the first day of school.

  • All Kindergarteners need to have a vision and hearing screening before they start school. This can be done at the pediatricians office or through the county health department.

  • New this year – students are encouraged to have a dental screening completed. Turn forms into the school office
