Service and Fundraising Activities

  • Provide free diabetes screenings with the A.J. Robinson Health Screening van.
  • Provide food and clothes to the Support Center for Farmworker Families, Watsonville
  • Help education through improved vision in the classroom by providing eye exams and glasses for local students.
  • Hold nationwide Student Speaker Contest to help students gain valuable lifelong skills.
  • Run a Thanksgiving Food Drive, providing hundreds of local families with a Thanksgiving meal; a tradition for over 20 years.
  • Repurpose and use Greenhouse and Garden to plant vegetables and herbs, for donation to the Via West Campus kitchen and the West Valley Community Services (WVCS) in Cupertino.
  • Support Hunger at Home the organization by volunteering and donating.
  • Pioneer a Vision Clinic, providing much needed help to vision-impaired individuals free-of-charge. Since adopted as a District Project
  • Host an Annual Crab Feed
  • Host and Annual Golf Tournament

Dues and Budgets

  • Total Dues (payment of Club Dues includes MD4 & International).
    • Club dues: US$107 Annual (Covers District, MD, and International.

US$86 Annual (Family Member must live in same house).

    • District and multiple district dues: US$18.
    • International dues: US$43.

  • Activities Budget: Cupertino DeAnza Lions Charities, Inc. is a 501c3 Charitable Corporation with an annual revenue budget of approximately one hundred thousand dollars ($100,000.00).

  • Administrative Budget: Cupertino DeAnza Lions Club is a separate 501c7 Social Corporation that provides the Officers, Directors , Members and Administration of the 501c3. Annual revenue budget is approximately fifteen thousand dollars ($15,000.00).

History

1917: Melvin Jones founded LCI.

1920: LCI becomes international with Canadian club.

1925: Helen Keller challenged Lions to become “knights of the blind.”

1945: LCI helped draft the United Nations Charter.

1957: The Leo Club Program is created.

1968: The Lions Clubs International Foundation is established.

1987: LCI became the first service club organization to admit women as members.

1990: SightFirst is launched.

Today: Our international network has grown to include more than 200 countries and geographic areas.

Name and Logo

  • The official name of the association is “The International Association of Lions Clubs” or simply “Lions Clubs International.”

  • The name Lions was chosen on a secret ballot over several others because the lion stood for strength, courage, fidelity and vital action.
  • The Lions logo consists of a gold “L” on a blue field surrounded by a gold circle. On either side of the circle is the profile of a Lion’s head, one looking back upon a proud past and the other looking optimistically toward the future.
