Activation

Think and share with your partner a negative and a positive thing that might happen in each scenario.

Scenario 1: You bring your favorite toy to school and share with other students.

What could happen?

Scenario 2: You are playing Roblox online and someone you do not know has asked you for your phone number so they can call you.

What could happen if you shared your number with this person?

APPLICATION ACTIVITY

Now we are going to practice whether information should be private or public based on whether or not it can have a positive effect or a negative effect.

Directions: Drag the information under the correct heading. Remember private should only be shared with parents or people you trust and public can be shared with anyone online.

CLOSURE

Teacher will place poster boards around the room categorized:

“OK to Share with Everyone”
“OK to Share With People You Know/Trust”
“Keep Private”

Teacher will give out strips of paper with private and public information and the students will walk around placing the correct slip on each poster.

Extension Activity

For this activity, you are going to create a slide, poster or recording to share with others on why you should keep some information private, while other information you can share safely with others.

Some ideas of what you can talk about:

Sharing information about your family. (What can you share and what should you keep private?)

Sharing information about where you go to school. (What can you safely share with others?)

Sharing information about what sports you play, or what extracurriculars you participate in. (How much information can you share without putting yourself at risk?)
