Attendance

We are committed to ensure that your child is present for the full day of instruction regularly.

Students are expected at school each day of the school term. This supports consistency in

learning for your child. Attendance is a direct correlation to student achievement. Please take time to

read the Importance of Attendance.

Attendance is digitally taken in the DOE Attendance Application. Arrival is expected at 8:10 for

all students. Lateness is also documented. Late is any time after 8:21 a.m. Please review your

child’s attendance to ensure accuracy. You can check your child's attendances/latenesses by logging

into your NYCSA account. https://www.schoolsaccount.nyc/

When an absence occurs, all students are required to send in a note for more than 1 day explaining

the absence. You can also notify the school by emailing the teacher and cc Ms. Lisowy @

SLisowy@schools.nyc.gov prior to 8:00 a.m. of each day. Attendance is taken twice a day on the

DOE attendance app. If you receive a notice that your child is absent but they are not. Please notify

the school. Lateness sometimes is not corrected until after the letter is sent on the digital system.

Attendance

ATTENDANCE AND MAKE-UP WORK

If a child is absent or late, grades, coursework, or exams could be affected. Here is what you need toknow regarding our grading policies and how we support our students with make-up work:

*** EX: Lateness to class may result in a lower class average due to the loss of instructional

time in activities such as classroom participation, examinations (Quizzes/full period exams),

dialogs, speeches, group work, lab work, etc. Students are not required to make up the exact

hours of missed instructional time. If students master course content and satisfactorily meet

expectations outlined in the syllabus, they will receive credit for the course.

Chronic Absence Chronic absence is a measure of students who have missed 10% or more of days in which they were enrolled in the school year.

24 of 33

Lateness and Absence Policy

  • School begins promptly at 8:20 am. Being on time is important for students to be ready to learn and settle down before starting the day’s tasks.

  • If your child is going to be late, absent, or picked up early, please notify myself and the school office. Send in doctor’s notes for excused absences.
